Jetting Mikuni VM26, TB117

Mikuni VM26
TB117, Motor is broken in.

I've been running it with a 20 pilot (which switched from the 22.5 initially) and a 155 main jet. Running lean. Any suggestions or leave it as is? Seems to bog a little when revving it. Once in second and riding it seems fine, cuts out a little on the top end in third and bogs on the low end in first sometimes. I have a 17, 20, 22.5 pilot and 155,165,175,195(I think) main jet. So Cal, 1000 ft about sea level

Intake boot has two splits in it on the top... could that be a problem? Can't tell if they are completely split through or not.

I don't know **** about jetting.

Thanks for any suggestions.

you gotta switch out that boot for sure though. Start there, then if you still have the problems, change jetting.

On my 108 I run a 17.5 and 165.

Try 20 and 175. Fix that boot.

hmmm. well I would fix the intake leak fo sho.
Second, Riverside is not a 1000ft, it's more like 500 maybe if you are in MV.
Jetting will be more affected by heat where you are at.
You have to select a main that pulls the hardest in top gear.
With your engine, Your main jet might actually be a little big, but that's because of your intake leak.
Fix the leak first, and you'll prolly find that your jetting is pretty spot on.

It doesn't look like the slits go completely through the boot (but will soon) so I ordered a new intake boot.

Riverside is around 800 (I don't live in MV!) I said 1,000 as a general elevation of the area and local tracks we ride. Just guessing.

I ran a 22.5 pilot and 155 main at Mini Mania, seemed to work ok, which is what I have been running. Just not sure if it is right, I'll wait and see how it is this weekend once I get those issues resolved (needs a float bowl gasket too)

Thanks for the input.

You'll never know unless you test other jets. that's what testing is all about. It's my life. I would love to give you absolutes but every engine is different. Honestly where you are at is what I'd prolly run.

( and I didn't mean to diss ya about MV, but just in case you ride up at Starwest, that place is close to 1000ft. )

Re: Jetting Mikuni VM26, TB117

switch the boot! Then go for a 20 or 22.5 pilot, and then walk the mains from 160 up in #5 increments.

Fatcaaat's steps to jetting:

1. Warm the bike up.
2. Start low and work high on the jetting
3. Install the 160 jet and rip roar to top gear pinned with the throttle wide open. If there are no hiccups at top speed, install the next highest main.
4. Repeat step 3 until you are at WOT and it begins bogging down and put the last main back in.
5. Then, go back and mess with your needle settings.

my intake boot is cracked on top too. Wondering if there is common probs with this carb cause gas drips out my overflow all the time too. 70degrees in WI and I run a 17.5 pilot, needle in middle position and a 210 main on my 108 and the thing is an animal.
