Making my own head breather kit.

Yes, I've seen threads on this before, but I still sort of want to make my own. I was thinking I could drill out the top cover, and hose clamp the hose onto the cover instead of jb welding or applying something that could possibly melt and make a mess.

Will people post good pics of there 50's with the ones you've bought, and people who've made they're own so I can see. Or post your opinion thanks.

Re: Making my own head breather kit.

hey. ive never searched the threads on here for making your own, i didnt make my own either i bought one, but if you were to drill your top cover, i would say you could try to thread an air hose fitting on there or something (threaded on one side, then has the ridges on the other where the hose would slip over), that might work, then just lock it with a skinny nut on the inside/outside so it cant go anywhere, just watch your clearance so it doesnt hit inside. lol or you could try to mill/lathe your own. might be a lot of work tho when they only cost like $25 or $30 whatever they are new with a hose..

Re: Making my own head breather kit.

I cut the threaded valve stem off an old tube, drilled the tappet cover hole slightly smaller than the valve stem diameter, threaded the valve stem in place after putting some loc-tite on the threads, snugged the nut down lightly, and hooked up the hose.

Re: Making my own head breather kit.

This is my homeade one. I used a Russell pipe thread to hose end fitting.

When you tap it out you just have to go a little bit at a time until the fitting gets tight and is flush because you don't want the tappet to hit it.

Re: Making my own head breather kit.

I did same as others, just drill it out, except I just jb welded a barbed fitting in

but I ended up just removing mine and plugging the hole with JB weld. I saw no difference with the head breathers on there, on a stock or a big bore motor.

it might only be a marketing to sell more billet blingo blango crap to people that think about style over function but xr50s are not the only thing that you can buy aftermarket head brethers for, i have head brether covers on my vw bus!!!
