My Mood: | shock mount relocating??
right, i'm about to relocate my top shock mount on a five0 crf50 frame to accept a reeg mx single style swing arm. is there a way of doing it to keep the geometry of the bike right or is it a case of bodging it until it feels and sits right? also, i'm in two minds weather to just grind off the original mount and weld a new one on, or make some plates to bolt on to do the job? i've got one that doesnt quite fit to use as a base to copy, but i'm thinkin the main problem will be finding the right shock brands and lengths? any ideas or info woud be ideal please, thanks |

get the swingarm and get a shock first then start movin stuff take the back half of the bike apart and then put the mx style swinger on and then put the shock on the swingarm and then put the wheel on and leave the forks on get a jack under it and then jack it up to where you want it to sit when you do find where you like it go up about a half inch and then hold the shock about a half inch away from the frame and then put a mount there. but you have to remember when the bike is sitting just dont make the swginarm at to derastic of an angle up or down and you should be ok. |

ok cool, so why go up an inch from where it sits right(is that jack the bike another inch or raise the new mount an inch)? and how will that affect the bike's sag with my weight on it with the shock slightly compressed? is it a better idea to weld a new mount all together rather than make up some plates to bolt to the shock mount and subframe to relocate the shock? also, is there any way to use a shock suited for an A arm on an MX arm, ie higher weight spring etc? as the decent A arm shocks seem more available? this is the frame and swinger (on the stock frame) ![]() ![]() thanks Last edited by chris140; 10-30-2009 at 10:22 AM. |

i was sayin raise the bike an extra half inch to just even it out if it has a little bit of warp from welding or it shifted or anything make something to bolt on to the bike first so if you dont like it take it off and go back to a style you will need at least a 800 lbs spring i know 50calibur makes a 800 lb spring and then you can get one i believe from t bolt |

you should really get a whole new shock designed for that type mount. while you can get a heavier spring for an a-style, the valving and damping internally won't be set up for that.

good idea about making a mount first so i can go back, thanks is it possible to have an A arm shock re valved or would it still not be suitable? either way its going to look sweet with the +3 reeg on! |

no doubt about the sweet lookingness there is a fox rear shock on here for 400$ you could [pick that up most shocks are fully rebuildable you can call the company that makes your shock and then see if they can rebuild it for you. post up some pics of your build as you are doin it |
