| ATC70 frame Tech
Here's a little bit of technical information I picked up over in the Glamis Dunes forums. If your front fender is touching or very close to the front of your engine, your frame is bent! For those of you who own an ATC, they don't get choppered like a dirtbike, but rather the opposite. In it's previous life, a past owner ran the front end of your machine into a solid object bending the backbone of the frame. Easy Fix. Remove the engine, air cleaner and carb. Get a 4"X4" (Fence post) piece of wood and lay it under the frame backbone. While holding the wood in place, get a bottle jack and put the base on your piece of wood, and jack it up until the jack is touching the lower steerer tube. The ATC backbone should be perfectly straight. If yours has a curve to it, you jack it up until it's straight. Use a level or a straight piece of metal and lay it on the frame and you'll soon see if your frame is bent (with the tank off) I gained 3/8" fender clearance by doing this modification and had a slight bend to my frame. As a side benefit, it will also straighten out a bent steering stop. Happy backyard ATC Wrenching! |
