trx70 drive chain tensioner, what to use?

Im working on a 86 TRX70. The chain broke and shreded the nylon part of the chain tensioner. Does anyone know what to use to replace it?
Honda only sells the entire tensioner ($80+) even though this part is held on with a snap ring.

Thanks

I have thought of this but, have not tried it yet, so you can,lol try a skate board wheel, drill out the old roller shaft and bolt in a skate board wheel, it might work.

The TRX70 roller is of a different design than the ATC70, as shown below.

Re: trx70 drive chain tensioner, what to use?

The only diffenece is that the TRX went to a roller instead of a sprocket. The reason was that when the chain and sprockets wore on the ATC's so did the tensioner, so when you replaced the chain and sprockets you should replace the tensioner or the worn sprocket on the tensioner whould cause premature wear on the new cahin, you do not need a sprocket as a tensioner, you just need something that wil tension the chain. On the aftermarket suspension frames they use two skate board wheels and a spring set up. 80.00 is alot for a chain tensioner, when you could make one for under 10.00.

I agree, from the looks of this picture, it wouldn't take much to make a new one up on a lathe and toss it into place

Re: trx70 drive chain tensioner, what to use?

Made one out of an MSR roller seems to work fine. I would take pictures if my camera was working! Basically i cut the old one off at the mount leaving aprox 2mm then drilled a hole in the center for the new mounting bolt (had to grind the head to half the thickness to make it fit flush) took the outer bearing out of the new roller, some washers and cut the bolt shorter to fit under the side case.
Ill say it for you "this post is worthless without pictures" so ill do my best.
