| maintaining a track.
Okay I have built my track and I need to maintain it, it has water access and I hose it down before I ride it. But my question is how do I keep it from getting rock hard and cracking like crazy. I want to be able to keep it sorta soft and lose on top and dry from cracking I realize that might not be possible, But what are some tips for maintaining tracks.

Maintaining a track is tough! I dont know where you're located but here the dirt is too sandy to ever get hard and crack. I mainly have to worry about it getting so loose its like riding in the dunes. Having to weed eat the track ever 3-4 weeks sucks too....Cant help you about the dirt tho man!

Maybe dont water it so often and it will start to loosen up. If you have access to a bobcat you can grate it?

I am located in detroit lakes mn, The dirt type ranges from a sandy type (not close to dune style sand) to mostly a mix of black dirty and clay. I just want to keep everything from clumping up and getting super hard. I have access to a bobcat, fourwheelers, prowlers, and a mini kuboda style tractor.

water it really good and till it up and water it again after you till it the dirty will be nice and it will stay good for awhile then you will have to repeat the process every few weeks.. The best time is after a good rain

Since you have equipment available you should look into getting a box scraper. They do a great job of breaking up and re-leveling the ground. That and dragging with the chain link as mentioned before and your track will be mint!

Around here we have a lot of privately owned tree services who are always looking for a place to dump wood chips. Have some companies drop their chips at your track and spread it around with the tractor and than disc it in followed by watering it before you ride. Once the chips mix in and break down after a month or so you will have some nice dirt.

Bush-hog it, disc/till it, then scrape all this up with a front end loader or box blade. Now back to topic. | |
