05 yz 85 tech

ok i have a 05 yz 85 that ive had for about 2 years now and about 3 months ago i blew it up and had to put another crank in so we did all that and after that all ran fine until i got hit on the trails by another rider and it completely crushed my pipe after that we put the stock pipe back on and it runs like crap now in 1 2 and 3rd gear it bogs crazy at mid powerband and then at the top of the rpms it runs like it has a rev limitor on but it runs fine in 4 5 and 6 what do you guys think it is

Re: 05 yz 85 tech

I haven't worked on 2 strokes for a while, but if you had an aftermarket pipe on and now you have the stock pipe back on - it is probably more restrictive. You may have to lower the needle in the carb and possibly lower the main jet. Did you have to do the opposite when you put the aftermarket pipe on?

Check the jetting. Stock main should be a 138. Stock needle should be a NBKF. Put the needle clip in the middle position. Stock pilot is a 45. Check your reeds also. Maybe one of them got jarred loose or broke during the impact.

Re: 05 yz 85 tech

stock yz85's always seem to be rich anyways, try going leaner on the main, or mess with your needle poistion, sounds like nothing is wrong mechanicly, just jetting...

Re: 05 yz 85 tech

Has the cylinder been ported? Maybe the stock pipe is too restrictive.
