| KX 100 springs
Hay all I just bought my daughter a 2006 KX100, she was on a TTr 125 but she now races a bit and I want to upgrade the suspension on the bike. she weighs about 175lbs so I know she is a little heavy for the bike but it has great power and she is not ready to move up to the 125 yet. so if any one can offer some advise as to where i need to start it would be great. thanks

Check out race tech, they have a "suspension calculator" that will give you a better idea as to what you need | |

Are you saying that she has a KX100, or a TTR125 with a KX100 front end? If you've got a KX100, then check out the Race Tech calculator, then check out Cannon Racecraft for the springs if Race Tech doesn't have them. If you've got a KX100 front on the TTR, then you have to remember that the TTR is heavier than a KX100, and compensate with the spring rate. Also-- the KX suspension is valved to control the rebound of springs set up for a 110 lb. rider. When you add 40% stiffer springs for a 175 lb. rider-- you'll probably want to send the suspension out for a revalve also. --L*64 |

thanks guys I have checked out race tech. luckystar it is a kx100 she used to ride a ttr125 but likes the power of the kx but is not ready to move to a two stroke 125. I will check out cannon, I have been having a hard time finding springs stiffer than .33 but I guess that will have to work for the rest of the year. should I replace the back at the same time?

Oh, OK-- I got it now. First consult with the Race Tech spring rate calculator, then I'd see what they have. Chances are that they (Race Tech) won't have the springs for a 175 lb. rider. Look for the correct springs on the Cannon site. You will definitely need to do both front and rear. One thing to keep in mind--- it may make more sense to send the suspension out to somebody like PR2 for example, and let them work with it. If you simply change the springs, then that will only affect the compression. When you drastically change the spring rate without getting the valving reset, the rebound will be uncontrolled. This will make the bike difficult to jump. If you were only changing the spring rates a minimal amount-- the stock valving would be fine-- you could just go with heavier oil. But you're re-springing for an additional 60 lbs of rider-- about another 50% of what the suspension was intended for. IMO-- gotta revalve. ---L*64 |

I haven't even looked at the Race Tech site, but I'm thinking that you'd need to go with a set of .42- .44 front springs. If you don't see them on the Cannon site, they they can make the correct springs for you. --L*64
