| I hate 88 kits by firepower354 08-06-2009, 09:53 PM
The push for a couple extra CC's has seriously compromised the reliability of Honda builds. I got a call today from a customer for basic 88 install tips, and advised him to fit the jug to the cases without piston, and it bound up on the cases. Happens WAY too often. Pinches the spigot, and tightens up the piston to bore clearance, causing a hot spot and mild seizing or at least scuffing.

Is it brand specific or do all the 88 kits have this problem? So the only solution is to have the cases bored slightly? P.S. Isn't it a little counter-productive for you dislike something that you probably sell on a daily basis? |

oooor shave off some material all around the spigot?(I've never seen a 88 jug yet so I don't know if the spigot is already thin or not)

So the Tak jug I have with a blue hot spot on the outside of the jug, near the base gasket must have been caused by??? How aboot the BBR one? Most of them fit fine (brand doesn't matter, they're all thin but can still hit), but I advise customers to fit the jug with no piston, then with piston but no rings, THEN bolt it together. Often, a little cleanup with a utility knife (motor upside down) does the trick. Even the center gasket hanging in to the case hole can cause a snug spot. Check it, or wreck it...

Not to mention they have no balls. I remember my fairly built XR70 head, high compression 85cc 4 speed bike would get eaten alive by my fat friend who has no riding skills on my xr100. I am a big fan of vertical motors. |
