Ok I just purchased a 1983 ATC 70 and I was wondering. Would it be easier to do a 88cc big bore kit, a performance cam, a 20 mm carb and a crf 50 exhaust or would it be easier to buy a lifan 125cc engine. I just want enough power to do some wheelies. Thanks

Its hard to say, work wise (also depending on your experience) the 125 would be easier. My Lifan 125 only lasted about three years, with maintenance constantly even with basic oil changes and a new plug every five months or so. Don't take my word for it, I bought mine used but I would go with the Honda route. You get a motor that you know is reliable, not to mention parts are extremely easy to find. I would also run a 22mm carb to give it that extra boost of power.
If a mini is considered an iron pony, and an pony is relatively half the size of a horse. Does that mean it only has .5 Horsepower?

Remember the 125 is a 12 volt cdi system and the ATC 70 is a 6 volt points system. For the 125 you will have to change the wiring harness, coil and get a cdi box. Is the lifan a manual trans?

I battled this same question a few years ago. Decided to go with the 125 lifan and love it. It has probably 30+hrs on it, regular oil changes and no problems. It has plenty of power, VERY FUN to play on. I have a mod'd Honda 88BBK also and both have their pro/cons, but for the trike the 125 is awesome.

Depends on what one you get, they have semi automatics to full manuals.

thanks for the info. Will that Lifan 125 bolt right up or will I have to modify the frame? If I went with the lifan I want a kick start engine. Will that crf 50 exhaust bolt up to the Lifan 125. I just want to find out what will be my easiest route. I tried numerous times to get in touch with someone from Dratv.com but I had no luck.

To get the engine punched out to a 108 don't I have to have a stroker crank? Like I said I'm sort of new to this Atc 70 thing.

It will bolt right up. Will you have tire clearance for a kick starter? A crf pipe will work but it might have to be bent to fit. Maybe the DR is on holidays.

I don't know I might have to cut the fenders. I heard you can shorten the kick starter.

Yes you will need a crank that's basically what makes the 88 a 108.

Also y do you want kickstart and not electric? Just curious is all not sure which way id go. I'm actually about 2 months from the same situation your in Hahaha too many projects ahead of the 70 it has to wait.

Hey what about the oil pump? Do I need to change the oil pump if I decide to go with the 88cc kit?
