Ratty DS80 build
Ive been extremely bored due to an injury and thought id pass time by building and refreshing an old ds80 we had in the garage. the bike was retired because the top tube snapped at the head gusset and kickstarter shaft is stripped. Nothing a little welding cant fix. As far as i know it still runs strong.
The cylinder is already bored .2 over with pretty low hours on the top end. Piston doesnt look bad at all, so it's staying for now. Im doing this on minimum cost. so I think the only money spent will be on paint, steering bearings, and brake pads.
The bike will not really be jumped or abused. I wish I could but the frame is already week and suspension is probably shot. I just want a fun little mini to cruise around town, be loud, and maybe pick up chicks..LOL.
I didnt really think to take "before" pictures, so this is the current progress.. hope you enjoy.
Frames welded and painted. My brothers first frame job, I think it looks pretty sturdy. i chose this color because it goes well with yellow plastics, and its different on a Suzuki.

Candy flippin' clear coat

LOL twisted bars, might get new bmx bars if it runs good

Thats all i got for now. Everything is painted, and im gonna start putting it together this week. More pics to come and constructive criticism is appreciated!

Re: Ratty DS80 build
I thought a few times about doing up a JR80. Have fun on the DS, but I'd watch Ebay for a cheap frame.
"Picking up chicks" with a DS80-- hahaha! Wait til you hit 40- you'll need a Corvette for that! --L*64

update
So i have this thing all together now. Started it for the first time today and it races at full throttle. Carb was cleaned and inspected before installing. Idk what else it could be.. I cut a hole in the outside of the airbox but that shouldnt affect it so dramatically. guess i have some work to do yet. The silencer was given to me from a friend. Was off an old rm80. idk why but I like the way it fits lol

Re: Ratty DS80 build
Looks pretty good-- you picked up any girls with it yet? The throttle cable may be hanging up somehow-- check the routing. Something has got to be sticking in the carb, or the cable. Look for an air leak someplace possibly too. --L*64

Re: Ratty DS80 build
haha Yea it was the routing, cable was too tight against the tank and was hanging up. Still races a little bit when clutched, but only sometimes and depending how its ridden. No air leaks from the carb soo thats no good.
Rode it a bunch today and it was a blast, everything else is solid. I have more stuff i want to do to it yet though
