havent posted anything for a while figured i'd give a small update. got some motovation today to get back on wrapping things up on my build. before i started i sat down made myself a list of things that needed to be completed. i started to tackling the rest of the motor work when i ran into a uh-oh. i used xr 80 cases w/ the xr 100 crank. well when i was dimensioning both when i first started i never thought to check spec on timing chain crank gear. prolly thinking different size, if you where your right. the xr 80 timing chain crank gear is rougly .090th smaller than the 100. being i set everything up for 80 specs this kinda throws wrenchs in my plan. thought about boring the 80 gear to work w/ the 100 crank by the time i get it to size it only leaves me with .020-.030th material on all sides so i vetoed that idea in a hurry. so now i'm left with crank grinding to get the crank to the size i need or figuring out another gear selection and timing chain length. i decided on going different gears and chain length in hopes it works out that way in the furture if i need a new crank i wouldn't have to do extra work to the crank to run this setup. minus that snag i have just about everything else done. all thats left for the motor is fiigure time chain out, tap in the cases to run a line to the head, clay and check valve to piston clearance notch if needed, drill two holes and tap for the startor plate, then i can do a final clean and assemble.

prep work on the frame is going about as fast a a herd of turtles through peanut butter. i did start doing some prep work tonight didn't take long before i got bored with it though.

    fins milled for exhaust clearance

side by side comparison of the polish work on motor mounts still needs a final buff but you get the picture

I've had that one stump me. Installed a xr80 head on a 100 and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't run. I was assuming they used the same cam gear. I was wrong haha, switched gears and it started right up.

i knew they where different gears. 100 has the 30/15 setup and 80 has 28/14. the shaft on the crank where the gear is pressed onto thats different od between the two.

after all nice days we been having i decided it was time to get back after the mutant. would of got the motor completed tonight but ran into a uh oh. i was cutting notches in the piston went off the specs of the uncut piston and perfed it oh well dumb mistake on my part. should have a new piston by wednesday if all goes right. then i can cut it down assemble it. then all is needed is i need to do a custom line to feed oil to the head and finish the backing plate. since i ran into the snag with the piston i start dry fitting everything on the frame to weld some tabs for the oil cooler and started prep work to make the cooler. with any luck it should be ready to go to p/c by end of week. fingers crossed.

trying to get my thread booted/locked....lol if i were allowed to state things like that it prolly would surprize some guys. dont get me wrong its expensive but compairing it to takie's crate motors its in the ball game and the mutant has ceramic bearings throughout, ti valves, custom seats, custom springs, custom guides etc..

i cant wait for it to be done also i'm ready to see if its going to go or blow

i figured with all the work you put into it....

but yea, that's why i said it wasnt a serious question haha id hate to getcha in trouble with the PM police.

and i think that a 'mutant' motor like this would be the ticket over a taky regardless which is best bang for the buck.

haha yea i have got a thread or two locked or deleted from not carefully wording my opinion. i think the mutant is the ticket also at least thats what i'm banking on lol. i have riden all of the takie staged heads and the kitaco se head and compaired to my 50 motors they are all tail draggers. however the +r head i just recently did for my buddy did show some good potential.

worked on it some more tonight got the piston done so now its ready to be ringed and dropped on the bottom for the final time. i will have to take the clutch cover off and cut on it there is a tab thats not on the stock cover and seeing how i used the stock cover for mocking my exhaust up and welding it and made clearances pretty tight to the clutch cover that tab will need to go in order for my exhaust to line back up. after finishing up the piston i started on my oil cooler and almost have that complete just need to figure how i'm going to mount it and weld some tabs on it and its done. once i get the cooler, tab cut off the clutch cover, and fab two braces for the supports on the bottom of the shrouds things can go out to p/c. im shooting for friday and so far its looking good.

this is one of the few/if not the last "do it yourself" thigns you can do now in the pitbike world, this is such a cool build, i wonder if a mutant like that would fit in a xr75 chassis?...

well guys the mutant motor is virtually done i didnt get no where near as much done tonight as i would of liked to. a local roundy poundy racer stripped a head stud on his block tried heli coiling it wadded it up and did this like 3 times. needless to say i somehow got dragged into machining a slug for him to go race this weekend. so my high hopes of having the frame ready to go to powder by friday is dwindling. heres a few pics of the cooler shortly after doing some touch up welding, the crf 50 stage 3 tokyo mods ignition i modded to work on the xr bottom mag cover shot and i didnt think to take a video while cutting the piston for the mutant had to do a couple for a guy so i shot a lil clip of that to verfie i'm doing my own work.

not bad for being a used junk yard ford explorer power steering cooler and alum. stock
