There realy isnt a lot to do as far as upgrading the drz/klx engine. The rod ratio isn't all that great so even going with a bigger bore will only give you small amounts of extra power. I bought the bike and added suspension and exh. Rode it and was happy with the suspension but the power was extremely anemic. So after talking it out with a few of some of the old timers from the site(dom, john, terry, and chad) I came up with something I think will work well.

wanna sell it! or possibly partial trade!!!!

Is that the 125L swinger or the shoter version... also do you have the stock shock or did you mod one? I'm really wanting to get rid of my 85 to go back to a set up like this

that's the shorter non L swinger. I have a kx85 rear swinger but I'll change that up after I finish the engine. I do still have the stock shock.

looks like it sits perfect... def hit me up when you wanna sell that bc I will buy it!!!!!!!!!!

Looking good doug! Was talking to john the other night we had a good laugh that all of us have some wild conversion build going on but no one has had the time to finish them. Looks like ur going to be the first one done. Hopefully I don't have any more snags if I don't ill be right behind you on finishing mine up

I like those Suzukis, but I really don't dig the motors. I was thinking about modding a DRZ125 to get a 150F motor into the chassis. Think it's doable? --L*64
-
anything is doable, you just have to make it work. that is why i'm changing rod, bore, stroke, head work and everything else on the drz engine-making it WORK!
-
you test ride it yet doug?
-
hell no! i have so many other projects going on it's unreal. i have to still rework the head on this one. it's cut for a larger intake but the chamber needs work along with the intake port

i feel your pain wish there was more time in a day. what size valve did you decide to go with? lol wanna trade my mutant motor is pi$$ing me off i about liked to pour gas on it last night and set it on fire. this whole 150r piston not working out has really put a kink in my chain. with the new crank and piston in order to get myself .060th deck my chain is sloppy it adjust out but it worries me not to mention the timing nightmare its going to give me. cant find a rod in the dimensions i need to make it work. cant deck enough to go to take a link out the chain. which leaves me the option of a half link which i cant seem to find a half link for the #25h chain. you wouldnt happen to know where i could find one would you?

Now that is some cool beans. What did the akunar piston run ya if you dont mind me asking?

I have a RM 85 complete chassis and a complete xr 100 motor all you gotta do is convert the frame if your interested.

I don't know how or know anybody who can fabricate the motor to fit in the frame or i'd be interested.

That's alotta fab work for sure. You could send a 150R frame and a few other parts to Service Honda, and AJ could mod it to run an XR100 motor in. Then you'd have a Junior Y. I just never wanted to deal with an XR100 motor b/c they're kinda weak in stock form, then they like to blow up when you mod them. A 150F motor is the Shizzle for a conversion if you want a mostly stock reliable motor. The DRZ motor holds alot of possibility if you can build it-- which I can't. Doug seems like he's doing pretty well so far though.
If I were going to do a DRZ. I think I'd try and get a DRZ200 street bike motor into the 125 chassis, so I wouldn't have to do any motor building. I'm not sure-- but I think it may bolt right in. --L*64

then theres always ur local neighbor that does conversions
100's like to blow up when you mod them? might wanna start taking your motors to another builder. weak link on the 80/100s are the kicker gears and cam journals put a takie head on it you take care of the journal problem kicker gears im still working on that but you could always do like everyone else does and remove them. i have a done a number of of 115's 120s that are still around kicking with no problems. 150f's are boat anchors dont get me wrong they are a good bike and can be made to produce good numbers but they are heavy. drz without a doubt is cheaper and easier to make power with than either of the hondas. capable of over 300cc's, 3 head options 4 if you count the dohc many other secrets if you do some research. if i had to take a guess id say motor parts doug has pictured above along with a gasket set prolly stickered out 300ish. not bad considering if he assembled it with only with the bb and stroker and a decent pipe hes prolly in the 17-18 range with huge tq numbers.

rod was $60, stroker pin, piston were $120 but $36 of that was shipping. I would have to say the custom sleeve that adv sleeve made for me was the most exspensive item, right around $200 installed. this is definatley a low cost build. the intake valve is a lt230 stocker(got that idea from dom). the rest is my labor. i have built 110 engines with way more money.
-
Yep-- cam journals are a problem on the XR100. I never heard anything about the kicker gears, but I believe it. I actually have an XR100 powered NSF100 road racer. I can't do anything to it though as it races in a spec class. I'd like to get a high volume oill pump, and some way to get oil to the cam journals. I've seen it done before, but I haven't got to it yet with my motor.
I'd say that anything above 11 or 12 horse, and the XR100 motor likes to fail at some point, and it takes alotta cash to get more than that. It's just easier and cheaper to do the Suzook or a 150F. If it were up to me-- we'd be using 150R's as pit bikes and call it a day. I like the 150F because the bike was only $1200-- and with just minor mods, I've been riding and racing the hell out of it. I wanna do the most amount of ridin' on the least amount o' cash.
I really like the DRZ's-- I may do one myself someday. I think John Adams got an old-- 1985? DR200 motor into a newer DRZ chassis like it belonged there, didn't he? --L*64
