what is needed to run high lift cams on the xr100 motors and not have the valve seals get eaten? tore mine down, only the exhaust side was damaged. is it as simple as trimming down the valve spring keepers? thanks

ok lets see here. ok where the valve seal is pressed on that need to be reduced. this has to be done by a machine shop unless you have a mill. if you have a mill it needs to be jigged at the angle of the guide take a end mill and cut it down.

sigh, kinda afraid thats what you meant. doesnt seem worth it to me.

it is if your eating seals it is. if the top of your guide is shiny its also kissing the guide itself. if its kissing the guide your asking for big trouble if you dont attend to it

its only eating exhaust seal, need to take a closer look at the guide. is trimming the valve keepers a no no? its not a huge cam, just a web 68/69.

yeah dont trim the keepers. with a web 68/69 you shouldnt have a clearance problem. are you running stock valve springs? if you are you may be floating the valves causing your problem. which is a easy cure pick up some after market springs.

running the web spring kit with it.
i may just replace necessaries and run it. now that i think about it, when it was first assembled(two yrs ago) i initally had forgotten to tighten down the cam sprockets and had to take it back apart to tighten. wondering now if that had somehow caused the seal damage? this engine literally has less than 30 minutes of run time on it, i pushed it to the side after it started smoking.
