    New With RM80/XR100 Conversion Project

Hey guys, I usually post on TT since I don't sit on forums all day, so I don't know how much I'll be posting here. I wanted to check this place out since most of the conversion building guys are over here. I'm working on a Suzonda RX100 build right now, and although it's not as nice as some of the others, I hope to have it ready to ride within the next month.

When I got the rolling chassis ('96 rm 80 for $25). The guy started the conversion and obviously didn't have the motivation/patience to do it...

Not really sure, but it looks like you just might have a problem starting the bike once it's finished..

lol, that was when I got it. I got a junk xr100 engine with the chassis, which has helped a lot with mocking everything helped (much easier than taking my xr100 apart right away).

Thanks, and yeah, I'm really glad I took a high school welding class. Now I'm in machining, so I can make almost everything myself. It would be nice some more room and machines at home though! Ha, yeah it costed a few bucks to drive and get it too, not too bad even for an already hacked up chassis.

Haven't had much free time since I'm working OT now... Latest update is that the frame should be ready to go. Next thing to do is see if the actual engine bolts up to everything, then just a lot of little things to get it rolling...

Nice work mxhideout! I'm looking for an RM80 or RM85 for my next conversion. I've done a 2000 KX80 / XR100 and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. What a PITA that was! I've got a DR200 motor and was wondering about RM frame dimensions... Mind if I PM you looking for a couple measurements? The hardest part of my KX build is the carb location and plastic welding the tank. Hopefully this bike doesn't present those challenges. Keep us posted!

Thanks. Yeah, the kx85 frames look like there's way to much in there... I've heard the cr80/85 frames are the easiest for this build, but this rm80 didn't seem that difficult, as long as my mock-ups are good enough, lol. Another guy on here (and TT) said that he just flipped the shock reservoir and the stock intake worked. Yep, feel free to PM me. It's pretty hot here this week, so not a lot of 'extra' work is getting done, haha.

I'm getting a little anxious here.... So far so good, except the exhaust guard seems to hit the frame. I want to make a custom exhaust anyway. Anyone have pics of how to mount the cdi?

Oofta, time to shower and hit the sack! I finally got a good day to work on it, and didn't realize how late it was getting. I know how everyone likes pics, so I tried to get at least one of everything.

    Mock-up

    Yes, I'm cheap.

The mounts weren't flush, so I added some spacers.

Yes, it's finally time to start putting things back on...

It's in the right spot, but I'll probably put a notch in it.

    And how it sits now...

Ha yeah, I need to order a chain breaker, but I'm still stuck looking for plastics. I got a seat, but I want some 2000 and newer plastics and air box. Some beefier pegs just came in the mail, and I'll probably get some better bars shortly after it's ready. Also, anyone know where I can get pre-bent tubing for exhaust that small? I can probably make the stock work, but it only fits on the outside of the frame. I asked on thumpertalk, but no one seems to answer questions over there, lol.

Thanks. I ordered a chain breaker kit, so I hope to get that on by the end of the week.

Id try a fastenal place for the same size tubing not sure if they sell bends or though, i ended up picking up a cheap tubing bender at a swap meet but for now for my custom exhaust I buy used exhaust head pipes for the same bike or ones that have the same diameter tubing and just use the bends in them to make what i need. So check on ebay im sure people are selling stock xr 100 head pipes for cheap. lol

Well I want to make a better performing exhaust if I'm going to take the time to build one. OD of stock xr100 pipe is 1" I believe, and I hear that stepping up to 1 1/4" is quite a bit better.
