    TTR125/YZ85 Conversion

After a little down time, focusing on some personal and family stuff, Its time to get back to documenting a few conversion builds.

For those that don't know me, Im mildly obsessed with the XR/CRF100s. I do a lot of CR/XR conversions, but KLX/KX platform is really fun and with the popularity and availability of the TTR’s, we started doing those a few years back as well. This thread will be outlining a TTR125/YZ85 conversion, using one of our kits. All the TTR/YZ ‘s Ive done to date have been 14/17 combos. This will be a 16/19. You guys have seen these bikes in stock form so theres no need to waste space with those pictures. Ive always wanted to do one of these “to the nines” so-to-speak, so… here goes.

Subbed! Looking forward to following this I'm sure it will turn out badass like all your other builds.

By the way pics aren't showing up??? It's just a bunch of empty boxes.... By the way could you PM me the prices and details for your yz85/ttr125 conversion kit?

    Thanks Guys.

Brake resi mount goes behind the right side plate.

Now its time to make the mods on the frame for the swingarm. They both share the same diameter swingarm pivot bolt, but The YZ85 swinger itself is narrower than that of the TTR125. That, of course, means that the TTR frame at the pivot is too wide. Instead of just putting a “loose” spacer on each side between the frame and swinger, we machine a little top-hat lookin spacer/weld washer. We then open up the stock swinger pivot hole on the TTR frame and weld them in place. This accomplishes two things: 1) Makes the swingarm now fit without fumbling around with spacers. 2) Makes for a much stronger pivot.

Next are the mods for the upper shock mount…

To better clear the frame, and allow for geometry similar to that of the stock YZ85, we move the upper shock mount back and up a bit. “Top-hat” spacers/weld washers, similar to those used on the swing arm pivot, are machined and welded here…

We can now bolt up the stock YZ85 swingarm, linkage, and shock…

You can see where the top tube/ backbone is contacting the shock spring at a small point after the bend. We will now trim that back and plate it in.

    Thanks guys.
Now that we have the rear suspension and brakes sorted, we need to cradle the sucker.

There we go. All welded up and ready for powdercoat.

Looks good, could you post a shot of the shock from the other side showing how the piggy back resi clears? For the 19/16 build do you have an actual 'big wheel' swingarm or are you sticking with the YZ85 stock unit? The welded in cradle is nice, does it buy anything over a good bolt in setup ala BBR? Lastly, what's the cost for the conversion service and do you have an 08 or later frames already done up for sale?

As far as the swingarm goes, for the 14/17 you can run a stock, unmodified YZ80/85 swingarm, linkage, and shock. For the 16/19 combo, like on this build, we cut the back of the YZ swingarm off and weld in one of our modern MX-style axle dropouts. Pics of that mod to come.
The BBR cradle is good if you want an easy bolt on deal. In fact, its perfect for that. We even have it on one of our test TTR conversions. But it can still stretch those two small tabs where it mounts at the back with bigger or aggressive riders. We do the weld-ins for strength but also for a more factory look and feel.
Ill post a pic of the resi clearance.
    I don’t have any pre-modified frames. Sorry.

You can contact me off this forum/site about services. I wont discuss it here for reasons outlined in a previous post in this thread.

Gotta prep a few other items for powder coat as well.

We machine all of our stock hubs to remove all the casting flash as well as ribs, leaving them nuce and smooth.

Also gotta clean up the clutch and ignition covers...

While the Ignition cover is off, we will pull the flywheel and put it on a 400g diet.
