Jetting for YX160 using VM 26mm Mikuni carb

I recently built up a CT70 with a new YX160 motor and have had issues getting it running. I bought (2) cheap carbs (first mistake). One was a 30 mm that I could get running a bit, but it was very choppy in low to mid range. I then put on a Mikuni (knock off I think) 22mm carb that idle's real well, but that's about it. I don't have any jets for them either.

I recently purchased the 26mm Mikuni carb (genuine) with (4) jet sizes. Can some one give me a idea on what jet I should start using first for hopes of a turn key operation to get this thing running? I have a 195 (stock), 155, 165, and 175.

Also I am having issues with the electrical charging the battery during operation. A past post told me to switch the two yellow wires around, can someone give me details on the switching of the yellow wires? I know for a fact that it is trying to charge (14-14.5v), but when running with the lights on, using signals, brake lights and horn it will drain the battery quick even when riding around.

My battery is cheap and it's not sealed. Could be another issue, any suggestions on a decent sealed battery that I won't have to sell the kitchen sink to get?

Thanks for your time and consideration!

I'm in Florida (sea level) and we're running a 175 main, 17.5 pilot, and 2nd clip from the bottom.

Re: VM 26mm carb question and electrical question

I had good success with the mikuni running a 22.5 pilot and a 165 main...... clip in the middle.

The charging system sounds ok if it is giving you 14 volts at mid throttle. I would check the battery using a volt meter to see if it seems to be draining while hooked up on the bike and then unhooked.

BTW.....we are 750 feet above sea level,

Thanks for your help guys! Very helpful indeed! I am at about 3,000 ft. above sea level. What site would be good on ordering different pilot jets?

Either the ebay seller in Florida I linked you too or DrAtv. What do you need? I have a few VM 26 606 pilots I will not use.

I am not sure yet. I was just going to see about getting a few to have on hand, when I dig into more of the trouble shooting this weekend. I'll keep you posted. I appreciate all your help.

The mains you have will get you in the ball park.

Is it a VM 26 606 carb. They made two VM 26s ....they use the same mains but different pilots.

The VM 26mm I bought does not have 606 anywhere. Which one is better or what's the difference?

Blackwoodz, the manifold that the carb came with (for the race head)......is it only good for the race head or should I put it on anyways?
