70 and 110cc kc powersports upgrades?
Hey guys!
This weekend my 10 yr old and I had a blast bashing in a local field. He is learning how to ride a motorcycle and use a clutch.
I looking for some upgrade options for both bikes. The 70 is what he rides and is there anything to consider to make it easier for him? On the 110, which I ride, I'm looking for some performance upgrades. What do you recommend?
Thanks!

As the title says, they are both KC PowerSports pit bikes. One is a 70CC, the other is a 110cc. I think I am leaning more towards upgrades on the 110cc bike. Looking for performance. For example, new pipe, new jets, etc? Any thing for performance.
Thanks

So you have two Honda 50' style bikes, one having a 70cc motor and one having a 110cc motor? Usually for easy upgrades people concentrate towards pipes, CDI boxes, Carb's, etc.. I wouldn't suggest putting too much money into an off brand Chinese motor.
If a mini is considered an iron pony, and an pony is relatively half the size of a horse. Does that mean it only has .5 Horsepower?

Thank you Halo! Of the items you listed, which one would be first in your opinion? What kind of performance would a new CDI provide?

Well in general stock CDI boxes, that of China or Japanese Honda origin hold back the engine just due to the fact of less flow through the ignition and such. I would personally get a pipe first, aftermarket pipes give the engine more flow and back pressure. A carb would also give you more general power, mostly torque due to more gas and air being sent into the cylinder.

Halo,
Thank you for the specifics. I was looking at getting a new carb as well. I am not home so I dont know what size is on there now. Do you have any recommendations on Carbs? Also, what about pipe options?
Thanks

Its all about what you want to do with the bike, where you want to go high end, cheap, etc. The best muffler brands on the market right now for minis are FMF, Pro Circuit, and Yoshimura. You can usually find Pro Circuit and FMF pipes on here in the classifieds for good prices generally in good condition, maybe a few dents, dings, and scratches. That usual on used parts. As far as a carb goes I can almost guarantee you have somewhere between a 20-24mm carb, I run a 26mm Mikuni carb on my 140 and I get plenty of power. I would suggest a Mikuni VM24 carb with a pod filter.
You would also be surprised what a little gearing can do, you can mess with different sprocket teeth counts for more torque/speed.

Prank you. I looked at that carb and I noticed the hole where the manifold connects is circular. Will the stock manifold secure to the carb?

You have to get a boot, it is what attaches the circular Carb to the flat manifold.

Great. Who is a good company to do business with? I need I make sure I order the right items.
I'm going to start with the carb and look at a new CDI as well. Do you have a specific CDI that you would recommend?

Well Bolt USA and Trail Bikes are some of the best mini racing companies out there, I would go with the VM24 on TB. BBR has a good CDI that I've seen quite a few people use. But you will have to rewire your harness.

Well, tboltusa does not have the vm24 nor do they know when they are getting any in. Plus, I emailed with Vince and he was short and rude in his responses, so I'm not sure I will do business with them. I will check out trial bikes. If there is a DIY wiring for the bbr CDI, I would be interested in it.

Really? That's not like Vince at all, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Just fyi its TRAIL bikes, just to keep the confusion down.

Yea, who knows. I tried telling him I was new to the pit bike thing and needed some guidance. I need to take a pic of my CDI and send it to him. Hopefully he will then be able to provide a suggestion on and upgraded CDI. I will post it here as well.
I did note that the current carb is a mikuni but i do not see any markings on the model. If I were to measure the intake hole would the diameter in mm tell me the size? Is that how they are measured?
