YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
I'm seriously considering the purchase of a YX style motor for a street application and looked at a long list of different upgrades that are available for it.
There are some interesting factors and I'd like to get some of your thoughts on the subject.
YX150 - Bore/Stroke = 60/53. Most bore kits I see are skirtless and probably drop the piston 2mm into the case. Anyone concerned about longevity on this?
YX160 - Bore/Stroke - 60/57. Most bore kits will drop the piston skirt into the case about 4mm. Now I'm concerned.
Are there any kits available that leave the cylinder skirt on?. How big? Are they compatible with the V2 head?

Monkey Shop Raubling
Do not know about reliability though

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
NCC has bore kits with a full skirted piston/cylinder.

Theres skirted and un-skirted BBK's. But un-skirted piston's dont work on 160's. But theres drop on kits that make the 160 a 177 and so on.

This is what I want. A drop on kit, that makes a 160 a 177 and is compatible with the V2 head.
I can't see this on any Vendor's site though...or maybe my lack of knowledge of this engine base is the problem.

Its all a bit confusing.

Just the head
Honda Trail Bikes
You might need to but the V2 and 63mm piston kit and try and find just the 63mm jug.

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
Right off of TB's site:
This kit is for YX/GPX150 or 160 engines with our older (now discontinued) 165 bore kit already installed.
So, the 150 kit that makes 165 or the 160 kit that makes 177 is discontinued. That basically leaves no options for someone with a 160yx due to the stroke.
The 63mm kit is the only one with a skirted cylinder to accomodate the longer stroke and it is discontinued. Hmmmm....

Yes....This is ideal...in a 63mm combination, that makes a 160 a 177. That's all. However, from the reports that I've heard, maybe I should just stick at 160 and add the head and piston. Sounds like there could be trouble for clutches at 177cc.

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
Ya the clutchs or cases arent here just yet. TB just released that 63mm kit not to long ago. Well NCC is your only option. And just make sure you run a de-comp cam if you can.

Do you want the 150 yx kit with the skirted cylinder to make it a 165.

I want to buy a YX160 base motor. Onto that motor I'd like to install a V2 head and a 63mm piston. The cylinder MUST have a skirt that extends into the crank case.
If I buy the two TB kits, I end up with an extra Piston
If I buy the new TB kit, I don't get the Skirt that extends into the crankcase.
Anyone know why TB discontinued the 63mm 165/177 kit?

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
Cause the read these forums. :O Are you set on the yx160 with the 177 setup?
Ahp Minis
But it comes with the tb28 carb. I assume your going to run like a tm30?

Set as in "Did you find what you're looking for" or "Set in that this is what you must buy?"
I am set in the sense that I want to buy this setup. I guess if I want it that bad I could buy the two kits and have a leftover piston which irks me pretty bad. I could also attempt to purchase just a 63mm cylinder from a vendor as well that still has the skirt on it.

Going to run a TM28-1 Pumper Carb most likely.

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
They saw how many motors that we have blown. Most of them being high cc's. But that doesnt make sense cause un-skirt seems to be a higher rish of something going wrong.

Re: YX150 vs YX160...compare and contrast...
I think it is less likely to come apart being in a street application though. This motor will be put in 4th gear and driven 60 miles at a clip. I think most people blow up the bottom ends before the tops go...If I just drive it on the street that sholdn't be too much of a problem.
