Has anyone every completely made their own 50? I'm wondering whether to just buy and upgrade, or maybe it'd be cheaper to just piece everything together... I'm not sure where to get a motor/case though. Just wondering on everyones thoughts.

OGS#2......Got Stock??
it adds up to build one from the ground up either way you go with it . if u go full bore the trick parts get expensive and if u go the cheaper route the oem parts u need will ad up to alot more than u can buy a used stocker for
Ebay is a good source for an engine, and most other parts as well.
I would buy and upgrade, a stock 50 is better than no 50 IMO.

It was like $1800 for the honda(not a chineese piece of crap) motor with the option of auto, or manual 4 speed.
It is not a 50cc motor, but it will fit into a xr/crf50 frame. I was going to add the link, but I went there to classic, and the motor I was talking about is no longer there(wtf?)But yea I must be dreaming this shit huh? you can keep your .02 cause it's not worth that much to me. whatever

Classic used to sell the Honda NICE 110cc motors, that you can safely bore and stroke out to 160ccs and put down well over 20HP.
You can purchase the motors here: www.faddybike.com. I would purchase direct from faddy and cut out the middleman, as you won't get a better deal here in the states. As you will see, Faddy is out of Thailand. Honda of Thailand discontinued this motor, but you can now purchase factory rebuilds that will be just as good as new. It's been awhile since I priced the motors, but if I remember right, it will be somewhere between 1000-1200 shipped to your door. The Nice 110 in stock form will put down 11HP out of the box. It's a bulletproof 4 speed manual clutch.
The Honda Nice motor is made by Honda of Thailand and in 138cc form, would be faster than 99% of the motors built from the Honda cases. There are a ton of tuning parts available out of Europe for the NICE motor. In 160cc form, it will outperform any motor combination available in the US.
Downsides: The motor is wider and longer than the stock honda 50 motor, so you'll have to fabricate new peg mounts or run spacers between the pegs and the motor to clear the side cases. You'll also have to run the Honda NICE CDI and do some minor wiring work.
As far as the 110cc motor on their (Classic) webpage, it's 6.5HP and a torque monster, but can't be classified as a race motor.
