Lifan 125 motor questions
i tried putting this in the import forum but got no replies, so i'm putting it here as well..
i'm thinking about gettinga 125cc lifan for my z project ( becasue i can get it CHEAP in trade for some labor)... i know it's manual clutch and starts in neutral, and that it is a low compression motor out of the crate.. but that's about all i know...
a few questions
1.) since it's a low compression motor... is the HC piston the first adn best basic hop up for these motors? also the guy i'm getting it from says he dont' know if the clutch wil hold the bigger piston..any ideas on that?
2.) will this motor work well with a 24mm carb or would that be too much for it in stock condition?
any help or other advice about these motors woud be great.. also wondering how the stock cam is and if a cam along with the piston would really wake it up

Re: Lifan 125 motor questions
I wouldn't bother with a High Comp stock bore piston. The cost of 54mm, 56mm and 57mm bore kits are so cheap now that you might as well bump up the bore while you're swapping pistons.
The motor in stock form will take a 24mm carb, but will be a bit soft and a pain to jet on bottom. A cam and bore kit will solve that problem nicely.
I'd consider an updated shift star if this is a 1d3u tranny as well.

Re: Lifan 125 motor questions
I have one of those ebay 54x54 lifans. The clutch is on the crank. It has 1d3u and it probably one of the most solid motors I have ever had. The tranny actually feels more solid then my honda. It is quite a bit more powerful than my 114 race head.

Re: Lifan 125 motor questions
The clutches are a not too good they are 4 plate. replace it with the gpx/jailing 5 plate and its a 100 times better. I would go with a trail bikes 146 bore kit and 26mm carb and it should make good power.

Re: Lifan 125 motor questions
cool, thanks for all the replies... but i have another question now... ... i've ridden countless stock chinker 107's, 110's 125's etc.. but never really looked into hopping one up much.. i'm getting it from Mattv and i've done a lot of work on them for him before but he had all the parts already. where 's the best place to get parts like the clutch and stuff... i found the bore kits on TB's website
so for as cheap as i'm getting it ( or the work i'm doing for it) i'd like to find the shift star, upgraded clutch and a bore kit i guess.. any links would be really apreciated..
thanks again

Re: Lifan 125 motor questions
oh and one more thing...... is the deck hieght different on these motors? all i have for now is a stock Z exhaust pipe and am hoping it will fit... i'm trying to go to beer-mine-mountain this weekend, it would be sweet if this bike was running as well ...
but most likely i'll just put the Z rear wheel on my CRF and find a knobby to throw on the front of the CRF for the weekend
