Tak clutch for stock mainshaft, on Tak trans
I put a Tak close ratio 3 speed in today and have a Special clutch for the stock mainshaft. The Tak main is longer and doesn't allow use of the tubular lock piece and the whole clutch can float in and out, only stopped by the clutch pusher. Now the flimsy stamped lock looks pretty weak, but does it serve an importaint function? It assembled just fine and seems like it will work, but I'm not sure the basket floating in and out a MM or so is OK. Thoughts?

Shim it with a thin washer.

My basket did the same thing... bought as a complete kit with transmission. It's just the way they set it up. Not very smart but it happens. Shim it slightly just to minimize some movement.

There's nothing to shim, unless I push it all the way out to close contact with the clutch pusher. Adjusting the clutch in should do the same thing?

Either install a shim behind the basket or in between the basket and the inner hub. I've done both ways and have worked fine.
Adjusting the clutch pusher won't fix your issue.
