street legal 50 ?'s
i just bought a 50 from this new dealer who scammed me and told me he got it street legal in ny. well he registered it as an atv so my dumb a** just road it around the streets for a lil while and then i asked a cop and he say no the red lettering on the plate is just for crossing the street from trail to trail. now i talked to a guy i know and he told me i can get it registered and all that other b.s. in vermont casue he knows a guy who registered a YZ250.....the 2 stroke. does anyone have any more info on this subject?

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
I think it varies so much state to state. I still want a street legal pit bike here in PA! I'd love to street a Pitster supermoto.

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
the cop i talked to said the bike can be street legal if the manufactures initial idea was to make the bike on/off-road. now thats in ny but i think honda should make street equipped 50s they would sell like hott cakes

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
your f-ed buddy. if you already have a red letter plate in NY its in the system as OFFROAD ONLY never gonna get blue letters in ny. i know in maine you only need a bill of sale to register sometime and they dont cross check it to ny. thats why you always see trailers with maine plates around. you might be able to make a bill of sale as a motorcycle then register it there. only trouble might be getting it inspected there. just cant ever register it here in ny as a motorcycle. by the way...did it come from statin island by chance? some guy was selling one there as street legal with red letter plates bull****ing everyone.

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
na i got it from this dealer who scammed my a** and i didnt know what the red lettering ment. so i was driving around the streets lol. but i talked to a buddy of mine and he said u can get everything done over the phone through the vermont DMV but i called and they said they stopped registering all 2 wheeled vehicles as of june 1st this year. so ill give maine a try and maybe even florida. i kno NY has some tight a** laws.

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
why don't you bring it back to the dealer who scammed you. nys has all kinds of laws so you don't get taken like this. if he gives your any bull, make a complaint to the NYS DMV they will help you get your money back.

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
So does anyone know the details of getting a fiddy street legal besides the obvious equipment upgrades? Which states will allow to to title them on road and how do you work the transfers?

Re: street legal 50 ?'s
My understanding was that many states (including the one I am in) will not title a vehicle designated as off road only. I was thinking it was probably like registering classic cars whereby you might have to title it in a different state and then transfer the title. If anyone has any info about this I would appreciate it. Thanks.
