Did you use Non-Detergent engine oil after changing the rings? Did you hone, bore, or otherwise break the glaze on your cylinder before reassembly? Did you do a proper break in?
Most people don't know to use Non-Detergent Oil after a rebuild, but you should. If you use normal, or synthetic oil your rings and piston will not 'cut into' your cylinder walls properly to wear and match to each other. A lot of rebuilds never stop smoking due to this.
The smoking from a recent top end job should clear up as time builds on the engine. If it doesn't, that sucks.
P.S. You should be embarrassed if you knowingly ran a bent exhaust valve. Lucky your engine is not in pieces from breaking/dropping the valve into your cyl.![]()
