Please read if you have ever considered custom graphics

This has been brought up recently so I thought I'd just post up something to make sure we're all clear on what you need to do to get custom graphics made. So, just to clarify so there are no hurt feelings.





1. Logo's.... we only have permission from a small handful of companies to use their logo's. For most logo's, YOU need to obtain permission from the company to use their logo, and to get their art files so we can put it on your bike. If it's a logo we already have the artwork for, you need to understand our terms and conditions that we are assuming that you have already contacted all the companies that you want logo's on your bike... and if there are ever any legal ramifications, it's your sole responsibility.



Long story short, we don't have every logo under the sun, and if we do use a logo and that company gets mad that we used it..... it's YOUR responsibility to hash it out with them, not ours.

2. We WILL NOT design anything that is overly gorey, explicit, racial or flat anything we do not want to design. There are only 2 people that may be designing your graphics here guys, I'm the main designer. I'll be open and say I'm a Christian guy and I have a hard time having to draw nude women, exploding heads, etc. No offense to you guys, but I'll have to pass on these kinds of jobs. There are other companies who will do this for you so I'd just give them a ring.



Hope that doesn't make me sound like a A$$, and I hope you guys understand?



3. ALL design work is billed hourly. We work for $75 an hour, so the more revisions we go through on custom graphics, the more it's going to cost. Once you've paid for your design work, the design is yours to get re-printed as many times as you please, no art fees ever applied again.



4. When we design graphics for example... a KLX110. There WILL be art fees to make a CRF250 look just like it. Even though the graphics will look the same, we have to incorporate them into a different template and it'll take just as long as designing them from scratch (because basically.........we are!).



5. If a piece doesn't fit properly, give us a call or e-mail, and e-mail us a picture of the graphic on the bike so we can advise you what to next. 90% of the time it's user error, ... basically you guys put it on crooked. :P But sometimes we use the wrong template, and if that's the case, we will ship you out a new piece, free of charge.

$75 an hour to set at a computor desk and draw artwork...thats some insane money for such a service. For that much you should handle the legal ramifications too.

making custom graphics isn't just sitting at a computer drawing... it takes time and many many copy's/colors to get it to suit the bike or person that has requested it... i think $75 a hour is a reasonable price for one of custom designs that only one person in the entire universe has... makes ya feel pretty special doesn't it

I am sure they are worth every penny to people that have money to burn.....and sure it is hard work especially dealing with people's egos.

jjw, i have seen his stuff and seen him at the tracks and stuff and his stuff is worth it. i cant say i have ever bought graphics from him. but some friends that i no have. they look good. keep up the good work.

Well, i do custom graphics for motocross bikes here in Italy and i use to work a lot with both single privateer guys and MX2 world championships teams.

When i design and sell a kit, i consider different aspects.

Usually if some guy want a custom graphic kit for his klx or crf50, i design,produce and sell the kit to him with the final price that include the graphic work; this price is usually not more expensive that a normal kit out there from top sellers and this means that i usually dont consider the real graphic workin' time that i've needed to make it.

In the other hand, when i design a custom work for a MX2 team or team in general, i use to give to them separate prices because often the teams need to duplicate these designs in the vehicles, tents, merchandising etc...

Back to the single guy, i never calculate the graphic work on a single kit because if i do this, a single kit should cost $300.00 or maybe more....

That's why it's CUSTOM. I'm sorry, but you're giving away your work and I can only assume custom graphics is not a daily thing for you. We produce about 1100 CUSTOM graphics a year, if we cut out our design fees, we'd be out of business.

Good thread and way to lay down the law! And $75 an hour is alot of money but thats what you can charge when your a professional... You take your car in and its that much an hour anywhere.



And FYI guys most companies are happy to let you use there logo, free advertisement!

That's why it's CUSTOM. I'm sorry, but you're giving away your work and I can only assume custom graphics is not a daily thing for you. We produce about 1100 CUSTOM graphics a year, if we cut out our design fees, we'd be out of business.

I never have took the position to offend anyone, i have never referred to you company and i have not tell you to graphic work for free, instead you (that declare to be a good christian...) offended me and my work telling me that its not a daily thing for me!!! Do we know each other, please?



It is clear that anyone should pay a price for the work, but if you tell that you want 75 bucks for any single hour of work,i assume that your custom kits are way expensive, or maybe you are a super talented graphic designer that do the right work at the first shot and just in one hour,with no modifications suggested by the guy that ordered it to you; and so the kit cost just $150, maybe a reasonable price...

otherwise, if you prepare a new work (starting from ground zero, with just one input and not using other ready pattern...) i am sure that it took you at least 4/6 working hour...so ($75x6h= $450, just for the graphic work...+ materials?) the price you sell this single kit will be $500.00?????

I repeat, i never took the position to tell you what to do with your business, but you dont tell me what i am doing with mine and what the hell, its a forum, a free discussion center, and i just told my opinion without offend nobody!



Last thing: when someone order you a custom design and pay you for the graphic work, all the modification should be included in the the price, without any other extra workin hours to be payed....watch out...
