Help - Gas pouring out of overflow on carb.

I just picked up an 05 drz110 last night. Some guy bought it for his daughter and she crashed so bike has been sitting for a while. So today I strip down plastics and clean everything, dump out old gas, drain float area of carb which had some almost rust looking crud in one corner that I got out. Well I put everything back together and it started up on second kick but I look down and gas it leaking out of overflow from float are in a steady stream. Any ideas what is causing this? As soon as you turn petcock on it starts coming out.

gotta take the carb apart and see if the floats are not centered....usually playing with the tab will allow it to not stick

Thanks for help guys. Took it apart and messed with it and it still had a little drip. So I took it up and down street a couple times and it stopped. I don't know how or why but it seems to be right.

Turn the fuel off and drain the fuel bowl then spray WD40 in inlet to the carb that should fix your problem. I do it has mantanice on the bikes,4wheelers, and the Jr. Dragster

The problem is usually in the needle and seat . You said the was rust in the fuel bowl.

I agree with 927DAD, there's usually just a tiny grit that holds the needle open, it will keep the gas pouring into the bottom of the carb. You will need to clean all that crap out. Check your gas tank too. I had an old XR70 that sat and the tank was FULL of GUNK! I kept cleaning the carb just to have it fill up with gunk from the tank. Good luck! Hey, I need to meet you, you are only a few miles from me. I think you've met John who is also on this site. Need to go out riding soon!

the needle shouldn't make the gas come out of the over flow. the float is what controls the gas coming from the tank. Like if your bike is off and you turn your throttle wide open gas doesn't come out of overflow becuase the float is not moving.

If it starts leaking again you might have bent the tabs on the float when you were cleaning it so the foat activates too early. Sounds like you got it fixed but if it keeps happening you can just bend the tab alittle so it doesn't do it as often.

One of the things I did the last time I took it apart was bend that little tab up and it seems to have worked no more problems.

Mtnbykracr, ya we need to meet and go out riding one of these days. I got some stuff coming fedex today to make my bike more comfortable, pegs, seat, etc.. but I still need to beef it up some to hang with your bike. That thing must be super fun to ride.

Understand about the float but if the float is working fine, it's connected to the needle/seat and it doen't matter if the float is all the way up, if there's grit where the needle and set is, gas will continue to pour in there...
