But there is no distinction between a two stroke carb or four stroke carb other than jetting. Why can't I run an 8074 on a four stroke with it jetted properly. You can buy the 8074 for about $30 brand new on ebay. For the price difference I can afford to change the jets to make it run right. I'm just wondering if there is any real reason why this would not work.

Run the $30.00 VM 26 and then you will find out what the difference is...the Pit Bkes will not run correctly

Ive also hear that the internals may also be slightly different ???

all I know is Ive seen both set-up and the 606 version is the best

    Re: Mikuni VM26-8074 vs. VM26-606

You can make the 8074 work it uses diff. size jets then the 606. There is differences in the carb's the 8074 has a jet in the back of it that the 606 doesnt have. I got a carb from two brothers which was the 606 and had Mikuni fuel meter it compaired to the 8074 now Mikuni brings in the 606 it flowed and carborated easlier and better.

Use the search...this topic has been covered before. I've had both and did direct swap outs of each carb on a 155cc motor. The difference was significant. Get the 606.

    The 8074 is a 2 stroke carb

The VM26 - 606 is a smaller carb ... it has a VM24 slide whereas the VM26-8074 has a VM28 slide ... meaning the venturis must also be different sizes as well ... The main difference between a carb set up for a 4 stroke vs a 2 stroke is that the four stroke requires smaller jets and a perforated needle jet ...

And as for "set up for a 4 stroke" ????? ... Check out a jet size chart to see what a Mikuni #190 main equals in Keihin main jet size ... Somethin's just not addin' up .....
