Sorry, didn't see this till just now. Currently sitting in Beijing (land of a million mopeds) and bored outa my mind. On the bright side, picked up this pile of garbage the day before I left. Should be able to make something out of all this. JC, I should have a frame if you're still looking for one.

Yeah, I am always looking for more frames! We ride just about every weekend and some night rides during the week. Here are some pictures from recent rides:

Okay folks, we are ridding on pretty much a weekly basis. Who else has a street legal mini?

I don't see any tags, does that mean I could throw a light bar on my KLX and bring it with me to Tech?

Anything over 49cc's in GA must be tagged to be street legal.

    Insurance yes, tags no

I have to go through the VIN inspection process before I can get tags. Only 3 of the bikes in the picture are mine. The light green bike belongs to a friend. As we all know the ZB is 49cc so it is good to go.

    Found this with Google:
    Mopeds

A moped is defined as any motor driven cycle with an engine not exceeding 50 cubic centimeters (3.05 cubic inches).
Mopeds are exempt from the provisions relating to the registration and licensing of motor vehicles.
Rules to operate mopeds on Georgia roads and highways:
Must be 15 years of age and have in their possession a valid driver's license, instructional permit or limited permit.
Must wear protective headgear (motorcycle helmet).
    No tag is required.
Every person operating a moped upon a roadway must obey the same traffic laws governing drivers of motor vehicles.
May not use limited access highways or other roadways where the minimum speed limit is above 35 mph.

So a bone stock XR50 is street legal? If so, I might be riding with you guys here in a few months!

You still need lights and a stator to power them at the least... It won't be "legal" but it is better than the dudes riding wheelies around the city on CR250 2 strokes.

Mopeds generally still have VIN numbers where as I don't think an XR does.

I wonder how often the Dude Date guys get in trouble for riding their minibikes on the road

Hey jstancel how did you get insurance without a tag? I have a 72 trail 70 and want to ride on the street just not clear on the laws.

Not sure what state you live in, but in Indiana you have to show proof of insurance before registering your bike. My insurance agent never asked for a plate number. I'm totally legal, but if I never registered my bike, I "think" I would still be covered on my policy.

I have gone through the tag process for a several bikes now. It is super easy in Georgia even for bikes older than 1985 with no title. I called my Allstate agent and gave them the model and the VIN. Insurance is $77 a year (per bike). Next step, is the vin verification form. I have completed it 2 ways, I stopped a cop that was driving in the neighborhood and he did it on the spot. I have also ridden them to the police station to have it done. Step 3 is to take the bill of sale and vin verification form to the tag office. $20 later you will have a tag.
