What is the best rear shock for a KLX Motard

Finishing up my KLX build and am left with the back end to upgrade. I am planning on doing a BBR Super Stock Swingarm and K&J Rear rim with Mitas Tires but am still on the fence with the rear shock. I grew up riding Mountain bike and I know the Fox Float is one of the most adjustable shocks out there. But how does it do on the street. Is Elka the way to go? All the local guys keep telling me to just come out and ride but I want to get this right so I can enjoy it. What other shocks do you recommend. I have Marzocchi forks so I need something taller to balance out the bike.

Elka is a great choice. I used Öhlins on my fiddy and it was an incredible shock. My street legal Perimeter uses an Öhlins from a Grom and its great. DNM is also a great choice if youre on a budget.

The Elka works fantastic for me on the X4. Not sure if the frame geometry is similar or not, but the stock X4 frame geometry left the Elka feeling soft until I relocated the upper shock mount. Running a motard hard requires a rear setup that doesn't settle so deep in the corners making the pegs drag hard.

the DNM shock for the klx110L is the best shock I have used so far for road racing, the fox float is nice but too short, however you can buy the 1" spacer. I have had 2 I-shocks one of them being there top of the line and both sucked, works sucked too especially since there is no way to adjust it. Never tried the elka or olhlins so cant speak on those but if there is no adjustment knobs on them and 275mm long then I wouldn't bother with them. Now if ohlins offered a 275mm fully adjustable shock like the one I have on my grom I would run it

looks good on there but its only 250mm which is shorter than a stock klx shock. you want the longest shock you can fit on the to give you more round clearance and that 275mm

also with the piggy back reservoir it wont fit a klx

True and true. However 275 wont fit this bike bc of the swingarm shock mount is too tall. I modified the frame to allow the external reservoir. Shock is incredible. May be steppig up to more spring bc of the longer swingarm.
