Help - CRF 70 is burning oil after 88 kit install

I installed the CRF88 kit on the CRF70 base engine and it's burning oil - I can smell it, but it doesn't blow smoke.

It's the version with the stock head and high volume oil pump. I adjusted valves to 0.003 clearance.

Any idea on how/where the oil is getting in? Is the valve clearance too small? It didn't have this problem before installing the kit.

Thanks!

Nah - the engine has been run for at least 2 hours and it's still the same as when it first started up.

The guys at T-Bolt told me they think the valve seals may have been slightly leaky, and the extra bore makes it worse so that it just leaks a tiny bit. They aren't concerned. I don't think it's a huge deal either, just wondering where to start fixing it and if there are any other theories out there.

if all the rings are lined up with the gap in the same place it will burn a bit of oil. Could also be as tbolt mentioned bad stem seals. I rebuilt a trail 90 a couple years ago that had tons of oil in the exhaust. It took several days of riding to get the exhaust to stop smoking.

This is more weird. ..

On 2 separate occasions after riding for a little while and shutting the bike off. We tried starting it and the kick starter wouldn't budge no matter how hard you push down. After waiting a while, we kicked it and it started right up.

Is the piston seizing? Why would this be happening?
