Just wondering... if you guys could change the shape a little what would you do that wouldn't interfere with legs. I don't have the road time on mine yet, only some cruising in the dirt. Yes, dirt. Could it stand to be a little wider? Looks wise what would you change. I'm just looking for thoughts. None of you restoring guys can answer. This is to the restoMOD crew.

I wouldn't think it'd look good going too crazy but I know a few little details I'd like to see different.

Would be cool to cut a gas filler from a bike (EG. YSR) that can take a (EG. Vortex) race gas cap and weld/mold it. would be a desent amount of work, Id give it a try on a Skyteam tank. Id feel bad doing it to a honda tank though. Someone do some thing out of the NORM......

Just wondering as I'm entertaining an idea at the moment and would be able to correct my own opinions on the stock tank. Had to pick the guy's brains that get to look at them all the time to see if they had any good thoughts. I know the gas cap setup is going to be changed as I can't stand the stock one. Didn't know about shape though. How do your seats match into the tank? Mines all stock and the stock tank is beat up but it looks like the tank needs to be a little wider in the back to actually give off a smoother line to the seat before it dips in where the seat butts up against it.

I'd like the have the tank be a bit more square overall but with insets for my knees, like a modern sportbike tank. A lot of modern tanks even flare out along the top edge to allow a more solid connection between outside knee and the tank while cornering. This knee to tank camming-interface helps maintain a solid lower-body connection with the bike while leaving the upper-body loose to move with the bike.

Also, a more squat design could be made significantly smaller without sacrificing too much capacity. I don't think we need more than 2 gallons, if that.

And yes, an aftermarket tank should accept a common sportbike filler design so we'll be free to swap between different bling fuel caps.

flatter and wider top with a steeper dropoff to the frame. another option for the side slightly wider than the frame perimeter or even with it near the top, then taper inward down to the frame

flush pop up/hinged filler cap (i hate setting the cap on the pump)

knee indentations, better fit with rearsets

fatter in the front and taper toward the rear to match the seat

the seat itself needs to be less round/fat, esp. at the rear. it gives it a pimple on the ass look if you ask me. it needs to taper to a thinner shape

That overhang at the top was exactly what I was getting at in my post but was having difficulty describing. Now I know what a picture is worth.

This monster tank is slightly less aggressive but I think the lines would work nicely on a ZB (ignore the airbox nacelles at the front):

Part of the reason I want to do this is I will build in tuned air box. :)

I've considered a dual tank in the rear doubling as a cowl but I dunno about that yet. I need to get farther along the project and get more pieces here that will actually be on the build instead of looking at stock stuff.

Ill have spash molds of the stock tank to form my plug here by the end of next month. Once i have my plug done your more then welcome to use my splash molds. They could be useful for you to at least getting a stock form made to shape how you want it.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Since I'll be doing it by hand I don't want it to be a direct copy of the stock one. The plan as of now is just eye balling it as I go and reshaping in some places as I wish. The more I get into it, the more it won't look stock though so we'll see. Maybe when I get it done, I'm sure you've figured out what I'm planning by now, maybe I'll have to try to talk you into making a carbon fiber version. :p
