Working on a new race series: Define a pitbike

With all that has changed over the years from when I first started riding pitbikes, selling parts at one point online, etc. I find myself working on bringing back the fun that started it all. I am working with a Utah based powersports shop to create a 3 race mini series that will start mid winter underground in the basement of the shop. Long story short the biggest challenge we face right now is defining a pitbike.

We held one race last year and had some bikes show up that didn't qualify as a pitbike in my eyes but we let them have fun anyway as it was a very small "fun race". The event has grown since and will have a mini championship, etc. over 3 rounds.

Anyway I am looking for your help to define what a pitbike is:
In my opinion what should qualify is a child's bike built up for the use of an adult. Ex: CRF50, TTR50, KLX/DRZ 110, CRF110, etc. Also what qualifies are brands who took this model and built a ready to race pitbike, IE: Pitsters.

How should we define a pitbike for our race series to prevent kids showing up on their KX65s, CRF150r's, etc.

Listing on the registration form that the bike has to be a four-stroke horizontal engine mounted to an open frame narrows it down considerably, and excludes any 2-strokes(KX65s) or 4-stroke vertical engines (CRF150Rs).

I wrote the rules for two pit bike classes at High Altitude arenacross in Wyoming. I would be happy to email it to you if interested. Classes are for Open full mod and Stock 110. Mahinspainting@gmail.com. Let me know if I can help we are not too far from you.

kx65's and 150r's are mini race bikes. Tell them to race big bike series.

Engine size, wheel size, brakes type, number of valves, 2 or 4 stroke. Set 'up to' limits, keep it consistent, and let people go nuts. If a certain type of thing is dominating, adjust the rules for the following year

Oh and don't forget to have a class for the people who build hyper pretty bikes that sit until they get parted out on here. Maybe have some towels down so their dirt bike doesn't get dirt on it.
