how to determine year of bike

    Guys,
I just picked up an XR 75 but I can not determine the year. The honda tag is on it but it doesn't say a year.

The number on the frame says XR 75 then jumps to a serial number. Nothing in the serial number looks like a year.

How can I tell what year it is? I need a flywheel and I bought one off ebay and it will not go on the shaft. The one I bought was for a 73-76.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Post a pick of the bike or the serial #.Be much easier to tell.

    • The serial number should appear as a string of digits separated by a dash. For example: XR75E-1500001.

    • 3Determine the year of your XR 75 through the seventh digit. A 1973 XR 75, the first model year produced, would have a "0" as the seventh digit; a 1974 model would have a "1." The final production year of the XR 75 was in 1979, placing a "6" in the seventh digit's place. For example: an XR 75 with a serial number of XR75E-1530222 would indicate that it was produced in 1978.

Thanks it ended up being a 1979. Is the 79 a good model?

A 79 is a xr80...For sure, it has the 5 speed transmission & better suspension. The older ones seem to be more rare and worth a bit more.
