    1981 xr80 value

I found this xr80 a couple days ago and its still for sale. Looks clean and maybe an older restore. Im going to contact them to make sure it was stored with out fuel and see if it the gas tank has any rust in it. If the bike pictured was in good running shape what is it worth? I know theres a limited market but I cant keep the bike and I would like to at least own it for a little while before it sells and ad it to my resume.

What are they asking? I paid $300 for one that ran, but needed to be cosmetically restored. I'd guess this one to be 600-650 range. If the tank is rusty on the inside then you will need to coat it or replace it. They really don't go much higher in price unless the guy is buried in it. That isn't you problem though. Right now the economy dictates pricing. So if he is asking $800, hit him at $550 and adjust from there.

I own it. Runs very good, Just gonna do a rust treatment on the gas tank. Theres very very little in there. The parts that were painted 10+ years ago look okay. The bike isnt showroom quality but good shape for its age and if you wanted a 1981 XR80 for your son to learn on like you did this is the bike!

Tanks all original. Has some scratches and dents but no too bad. Where one of the stickers is pealed it makes it look dented in pictures but it isn't right there.

If you want the tank coated send it down to southbridge radiator. They coated one of my atc70 tanks for 75 bucks. The tank was sand blasted on the inside and coated. Came out great. I checked it with a fiber optic scope and it was done right.
The stuff they use is called red coat.
I had them do a rm60 tank years ago and it never flaked off and never had a problem. Now 12 years later still ok.
