    Electrical expert needed

Anyone on here ever swap a xl100s into a xl75 frame and integrate the wiring? I've got a 77 Honda xl75 I'm about to swap this 100 into my xl75 as a intern motor until I figure out why my xl75 transmission stopped shifting.Anyway, here's my dilemma The xl75 has two coils at the magneto. One for charging, the other for ignition. the charging coil has one wire which leads to the rectifier, the other leads to the headlight circuit constant on, both wires lead from the same coil which leaves me to believe its wound on the bar with one wire at each end for the headlamp & the rectifier. The xl100 has three magneto coils. One for ignition, and two others for lighting & charging. One coil is wound with two leads for the internal rectifier/regulator, and the other one is a dedicated lighting coil for the headlamp. My question is Could I just use one of the coils for lighting and charging on the xl75 and just leave the third coil out of the circuit? since the coils on the xl100 are slightly smaller than the xl75 will it still charge the same?Overcharge maybe??? I want all the lights to continue to work as it's street legal & I need someone who has actual application experience on combining these systems as I just have the wiring diagrams out of the clymer manual to go by. thanks in advance...

Pretty sure the xl100 (atleast in stock electrical form) needs a battery to run, I'm sure someone with a definite answer will confirm but one a played with a long time ago needed a charged battery to fire up other wise you could kick/push start it all day long and it wouldn't fire

Are the stators not interchangeable? Can you just swap the XL75 bits onto the XL100 engine?

Yes my xl75 has a battery, for lighting only, the xl100s 79& later has its own internal ignition system so technically no it would not need a battery to run like the earlier xl's this is the type of engine I'm trying to swap into the xl75. The 78 & earlier xl 100 engines were a different design...

    Hi there.
I'm no electrical expert, but i would try this:

Connect the lighting coil to the AC headlight as usual.
Take one lead from the charching coil to your existing (one) diode rectifier to charge the batterie, and ground the other one.

I got myself a XL50 running, and i love the small XL's for their street legality.
