    Recommended Mods

I'm looking to get my seven year old son a TTR50 for Christmas. He won't be racing it but he will be riding it pretty hard. He races mx and will be using it for pit riding (where allowed) and some aggressive yard riding. I will ride it too but probably not on a track. What mods do you guys recommend right from the start? Bars, HF Air Filter, Pegs, HD Springs, tires, etc. I'm not interested in a big bore kit yet. They are just too expensive right now.

def a bar set, and longer cables to fit with it

hard springs up front, and a new shock in the back, unless your light enough for it

pegs are nice, but arent needed if you dont slip off of yours

new rubber is almost essential, the ones they come with are so bald

air filters dont do much to stock engine, but they do make it louder, youll hear the valves clanging around,

a skid plate is nice to have to protect everything from what you hit

and a titanium powerband is always good to have, and there super cheap too(its all in your head,,,)

A titanium powerband huh? I'll have to add that to the wishlist. I need to get one for his KTM 65 and his King Cobra too.

I'm thinking about the Chad Reed Replica which comes with the tall bar kit. I had a filter on my klx110 and I didn't notice much gain besides the noise.

What about the stock pipe? Can it be opened up a little or should I replace it?

Will a 5'8" 240 lbs man look stupid riding a TTR50 around the yard? Will the bike hold up? I'm not an aggressive rider just looking to have fun with the kids.

i like the ttr50 but if your looking to have fun your better off getting a pitster pro or a honda. im not trying to change your mind but IMO i think the ttr50 is just anothere crf50 copy but the parts are higher priced and theres not nearly as many options for parts.

What is a titanium power band?

If your son is 7 and already racing MX, he must be able to kick start his MX bike? Take off the e-start. By eliminating the starter clutch and wheel gear you can shed 19.6 oz.'s of spining mass from the fly wheel ..........Without lighting the rotor.

I think this is the bigest bang for the buck for a stock motor. JMO

My son can definitely start his own bike. It would be nice to lose some rotating mass from the engine but I don't know about the adverse lightening effect the kickstart kit will have on my wallet.

I agree that the CRF50 is probably a better option than the TTR50 due to the greater availability of aftermarket parts and accessories and the lower cost of those parts. However, I'm not looking to build a high dollar race mini. I'm just looking for something to mess around with in the back yard.

The biggest reason I'm leaning toward the Yamaha TTR50 is because my son has $400 in Yamaha Contingency money that he got at Loretta Lynn's this year. I was planning to use that as a down payment on my, uh his pitbike.

I still haven't made up my mind yet. I may just use the contingency money to stock up on spare parts for our PW50 and then buy a KLX110 or a golf cart.

I decided to hold off on getting a TTR50 or any pitbike for right now. I don't want to go in debt (further) to get one. Plus, I need to get my son another 65 soon and I'd like to get a DZ-Z400SM or DR650 for myself.

hey man you saw my bike i am 6'3" and 230 and i rode the hell out of mine, but i must say your going to have a hard time setting the bike up for both of you, Seems to me like you are modding it more for you, not for them, they dont need hd springs, only thing they might need still is a bar kit, and pegs are nice to have, but i dont think a pegmount is necessary as my stock one took a majore beating no problems, unlike the crf one... Anyway, my 7 year old sis rode mine when i got with just a bar kit filter and pipe and she loved it and it was perfect fit for her, but it was my bike and i made it suit me and she couldnt ride it how i set it up...

Ok, it's back on as long as my wife hasn't changed her mind about letting me get one. This will be a yard/pit riding bike. Here are the mods that I'm considering right off the bat.

    GYTR Bar KIt

    GYTR Brake Pedal

    GYTR Oversized Pegs

    GYTR Shifter

    GYTR Chain Guide

    GYTR Skid Plate

    GYTR Air Filter

    GYTR Jet Kit

    Tires (Starcross or M40)

Let me know what you guys think about these mods.

    How does this sound?

BBR SP-5 Fork Kit w/BBR Bar Kit

    +2 Swingarm (BBR or Twobros)

    12" Front w/HD Spokes

    10" Rear w/HD Spokes

    I-Shock or Fox

    Twobros Skid Plate

    Kick Start Kit

    Tires

That sounds pretty sweet to me. Now, what were those lottery numbers?

That sounds like a great setup right there. Gonna be costly of course, but it is worth it.

The Fox air shock will allow you to set up the rear suspension for you and your 7yr old. You just adjust the amount of air pressure for the rider weight. It is a great performing shock too.

I got my first pitbike to ride around with my son who raced 65's at the time also. The pitbike turned out to be so much fun that we sold all of our "big" bikes and all we ride/race is pitbikes now. I have the Z50 (my OG pitbike). We have an XR50 and two KLX110's. We also had four Pitster Pro's. I like my 110 the best out of all of them, but if I were to get another 50, I would get the TTR-50. I just like them alot better then the CRF and Yamaha made them knowing adults would be riding them so they are alot stronger.

We all look pretty silly riding these little bikes around. But they are just way too fun to stay off of.

I went to the dealer at lunch time to check them out again. Unfortunately, they don't have one on the floor with the bar kit already mounted. They have a CR Replica on display at the mall but it is roped off and it's mounted on a pedistal. I like it but they fugged up the graphics when they put them on.
