Stuck on my 1980 Z50R build
I'm rebuilding my 1980 Z50R and having some problems with getting it to start.
The 1980 had a bad engine that I was going to try and rebuild until I saw a 1979 Z50R on CL 100 miles away in Georiga.
So I did the correct thing and cut out early from work for a 200 mile road trip.Well the one pick on CL was bad and this thing was in BAD shape. It was running but held together with clay and bailing wire. After a short ride with no brakes I decided the few good parts Tank,engine/trans,4 lug rims was worth 200 bucks to me and we made a deal.As we are loading it in my truck he tells me how to mix the gas with oil 50:1....WTF!
So,when I get back home I just swap the tank with the one from my 1986 with fresh gas, install the correct NGK plug and she starts right up.I rode it around the yard a few times until I almost took out my fence with no brakes and decided the engine was good.
Fast forward a few weeks and my parts came in so I pulled the motor from the 79 and put it on my 1980 frame.
The only thing that wouldn't bold right on was the factory muff from the 79 or the 80;it is about 1/4 to 1/2" off from the frame.
Are the 79 and 80 49cc honda engines the same?
I used all the same wires and coil with the 79 engine that ran fine a week ago and now the POS wont start!
The only thing I can think of is I must have the carb messed up after I replaced all the cables.
The throtle doesn't feel the same as it did before so I am starting there after lunch today.
Sorry for the wall of text, any thoughts?
Well I got her going and after some tinkering she is running pretty good.
It smokes a little but shifts great and I like the way it is looking.
Is there anything starter fluid can't fix?
I need to figure out what the problem is with my new throttle cable,or how to put it together correct.
The spring in the top of the carb seemed to be to long or the cable is to short;I took the spring out and it ran fine.
Here is a pic of the 1980 I went a little crazy with the fleck in the paint.

Nice little runner.
Where did ya get the handlebar/clamp setup? If that is an '80, it should have had fixed bars with no clamps.
The 1980 did have fixed bars but I was able to salvage the clamps that came with the 1979.
