    So you want to convert a mini to street in Ontario, Canada Eh?

    You'd better come prepared.

    Only dirt based minis that were converted to street prior to 2007 can legally roam the streets in a land that is 'Yours to Discover' (Unless you have a green -off road- plate, you can discover whatever you choose, just don't use a public highway).


    Prior to 1980 the MTO didn't concern themselves overly with minibikes. Matter of fact, hardly at all.

    This is key. Many at the time saw it as a cash grab (imagine!), and didn't register there road legal dirt bikes. So there are more than a few unregistered pre 1980 bikes still kicking around.

    They're rough and tumble, but if you want to bomb down the street for milk on your mini (and you live with 100 Miles of Tmas, who buys all the good bikes before you can get there)...

    You'll do just about anything.



    Like start with an absolutely bare SL70 frame (clear title, as above) and re-power it with an XR 100 engine.

    XR100 powered SL70

    • The first cut is the deepest; removed the sl70 underside engine mount bracket to allow the XR to sit lower in the frame.
    • Lots of room for the exhaust to come out between the spars.

    • Brake lever will be cute. Already fighting for real estate with the lower rear engine mount. The engine mount may be sacrificed as I plan on suspending the engine with the peg mount bosses and front 'brace'.
    • XL185 rear shocks mocked up, will stretch an early XL 100 swinger. Not getting any younger and central Ontario's pot holes aren't getting any smaller.


    Gotta slow down with the recip saw for now, still need to map out the position of the SL's countershaft sprocket, I'll be using that point for datum.
