Hello i have 2 trail 70s my 78 stopped sparking so i rebuilt the inners of the stator/flywheel the kit with coils points condenser etc.. now still no spark i am missing my woodruf key but when i put the flywheel on i try to line it up the best i can but i cant see points open.. i will be ordering one of those soon.. but when i put a test light where the plug goes it lights up and it will give me a good shock but when the plug is on no spark tried another ignition coil still no spark i tried to adjust points by loosing the little phillips head screw and then moving in upper and lower positions still no spark.. i ran test wires to bypass any shorts in wiring .. any tips .. also what causes points to open is part of the inner flywheel oval? please please any tips would be great i put a lifan 125 in my other one and that is super fun this one a 88cc bigbore kit
Are you sure the flywheel hasn't demangnetized and the new stators are the correct size ? Honda built three different 6V stator/rotor sets (Mitsubishi, Hitachi and another) into the little engines, of which the parts are not all interchangeable. They will probably fit, but the distance between the iron core of the stator and the magnets of the flywheel could be too big to produce enough energy. The magnets in the flywheel can also grow weak over the years if not stored properly. Had that once and it turned me completely nuts, because I exchanged virtually every part including the whole wire loom without any change to the problem
i tried another flywheel but when i look in the little slots i cant see the points moving at all they are not stuck together i can pry them apart its putting out juice from the black wire and from the ignition coil i tried the sparkplug in another bike and it worked i might try taking everything apart and putting it all back together and see if i get lucky
i typically use a business card to gap my points. they should be gaped where the hole in the original fly wheel lines up with the points. U NEED THE key to keep things lined up properly. if there is allot of spark in the points. but none in the plug then the condenser is bad.

possibly a kill switch or key switch malfunction? maybe temporally bypass these to see if it is grounding out the ignition coil? HONDA CT70 ATC70 SS50 Z50 XL70 CDI Electronic Ignition | eBay
