    Need easy rebuild advice--stator/points 69 z50

I want to order this rebuild kit from CHP to replace all the electronics on my 69 Z50 on the engine. However the 2 phillips scews that hold the stator plate to the engine case were stripped out by somebody else previously. So my simple rookie question is, can I replace all the electronics without actually taking off the plate itself? The rebuild kit comes with a rubber ring gasket, I am assuming this would be the only part I couldn't replace in my situation? I don't want to mess with the stripped screws right now if I don't have to.

Yes you should be able to. When you put the screws for the coils back on use a sealant on the threads. Are you sure you need all of that. The original stuff is better quality

Well, I'm still trying to resolve the "no start" problem on my blue bike since I got it, I figured this would be a simple and cheap way to "most likely" eliminate any of these parts as the problem ($32). I don't know if what's in there now is original or not as it was restored before I got it (maybe one of the experts can tell from the pic?)

I'm not quite able to get into the garage yet (just got 10 inches of snow Friday sheesh!) but want to start getting ready for spring work on the bikes.

I would like to install the other motor you rebuilt for me into this bike while I finish up the red one I have planned for it originally, so I can at least hear it run, have some fun with it and see what carb to use, but if I can't get the blue one started with it's current engine, there's not much point in putting in a different one that I haven't fired yet either. (in case it's a problem on the bike, not the engine).

I'm about ready to just bring this blue one to a dealer and tell them not to call me until it runs!

I recently put that kit in my 76 without removing the backing plate. Its a little harder to solder the condensor wires, but no big deal.
