1972 Z50 budget build

This is a discussion on 1972 Z50 budget build within the Z50, CT70 and JDM Monkeybikes forums, part of the General Talk category; What's on there now? I'd say mount up the swinger with what you currently have and see how it looks. Then go from there...

Wait you mean do something that costs me nothing first?! That is crazy talk. I think the adjustables I have on there now are 272mm.

We f'me.. damn dmv denied my chp paperwork because the guy typed it and didn't hand write it... Everything was typed and then he signed the bottom of it. Also me going to the next town over for chp inspection was frowned upon. (2 week wait vs 3.5 month wait...)

5 trips to the dmv and two trips to chp, but it is finally plated! Luckily last guy I got at the dmv was super cool. I will make a new thread when I have time and list out exactly what was needed to plate it.

G-Craft handle bar holders and some Sikk brand handlebars I found. Need to find a decent throttle now.

Finished putting the bars together today. I will snap a pic in the sun tomorrow.

Also put on a new 13$ carburetor from ebay. And wow! This thing has some pep now! Second gear took me by surprise when the front wheel came off the ground and out on the street I got the speedo up to 30mph and she kept pulling! Of course I still need to take out a gps so I can see how far off the speedo is.

Does anyone know what rpm range I should be in with the stock 49cc engine, high flow air filter and 88cc+ exhaust. (plan on upgrading the engine at some point)

The RPMs are based solely on the gearing and not the motors output. You can have a 50cc stocker and a totally worked stroker motor and they would both go exactly the same top speed if the gearing is the same...and the 50cc had enough power to get it there. Sure the worked motor would get you there faster, and have the power to stay there all day but the gearing is what limits the top speed.
You want to be in the 6-8000 range, with 10k being about the max.

Needs to be about 3" taller to be perfect. But it works well enough for now.

I am not liking the gap between the seat and the taillight. Any recommendations on a aftermarket rear rack?

Also for the front suspension is the fast50's HD springs the only option with stock forks? And are they just 1" longer or they stiffer too? I am thinking about cutting 1-1.5" off my old springs and adding them to the forks if that is the case.

I bought one of these racks from webike...

    http://japan.webike.net/products/19843966.html

It is oem quality, could not be more happy for the cash.
The fast 50's springs are stiffer and longer. You can buy the bbr crf50 springs if you just want stiffer.
Didn't you buy some taller bars? The ones in the pic look low.

The fast 50s springs are stiffer and longer. Maybe my data off or outdated but from what I remember, stock springs are 70lbs and fast 50s are something like 170lbs. I ran them for over a decade. They worked perfect when I was mx'ing my 50. Way less wicked bottoming out and the added height was cool.

I also have and am now running a set of twobro springs and chromoly legs. Nice setup.

I will say though, both are too stiff for the street in my opinion. I have a set of Daytona inner forks and can't wait to feel the difference.

As for other options with stock forks, You can look for longer fork legs. +1 forks with upgrade springs will give you the highest and most travel in stock. You can't add any length to the actual springs as they have to be one piece. Webike has a lot of options for the above.

Well F me.. The dmv mailed back all my paperwork and wants me to have the Reg 31 form filled out again.. I think it is because the chp filled out the EPA stuff and it says it is for bikes 1978 and newer..
