    Lifan 125cc to 1984 Z50, it is a bolt on swap??

    Hi all,

    I'm new to this forum. I have a 1984 z50 for years. It is a awesome little bike. The only complaint I have is the lack of power and the automatic gears. I have been thinking of doing a Lifan swap for years. I want to know more details about the swap.

    Q1. Does Lifan 125cc have the same mounting hole pattern as the original z50 engine?

    Q2. Will the old exhaust pipe fit? If not, is there any exhaust pipe made for the swap?

    Q3. Will the old air filter box fit? If not, what is the solution? Maybe use universal air filter? But those doesn't look heavy-duty enough to be used off-road.

    Q4. Where to get the clutch lever and clutch cable?

    Q5. What would be the total estimated cost of the swap?

    Q6. Does the swap worth the effort?

    Q7. Is Lifan 125cc powerful and reliable?

    All the Pit bike engines we offer have the same main motor mount bolt pattern as Z50
    The biggest challenges are the lack of room to mount the bigger carb and the peg-mount fit
    Heres a few parts we offer to help

    Hi, I install a Lifan 125cc semi auto in a 83 Z50R. The engine fit in the frame. I used a aftermarket exhaust, the engine is longer so you will have to look into a aftermarket exhaust. I used a UNI 2 stage air filter on mine. There are a lot of other things I had to change. New coil, needs a 12v coil and had to lengthen the coil wire (found it to be short). New wire harness. Had to buy a CDI box. Had to shim the front fender away from the cylinder head because it was rubbing. Had to get a angled intake. Had to get a foot peg assembly, the Lifan is a wider engine. Had to put a longer swing arm and 330 mm rear shocks, the front end wouldn`t stay down. I installed longer front shocks to balance out the suspension. The Lifan 125cc engine I had in the bike had a lot of power fun to ride.

    You might want to consider a complete engine package where all the included parts are compatible with each other.
