    My $60.00 garage sale find

I was out with the girlfriend last weekend and scored this z50 project for $60.00!

Ive been looking for an engine on craigslist. So far not much luck only atc70s and 90's out there.

Will a honda 90 or 125 fit in my frame?

Dude. Looks to be a slant-guard 1968 model. Front fork and tank looks to be from a later model. Not quite holy grail, but awesome for $60. Get a picture of the other side of the bike to be sure it is a slant, but SCORE!

Ya that's a very very low number. The frame, has that extra layer of steel across the top of the main tube...forget what to call it. That might be better sold off to a collector type, then replace it with one that's less rare but more complete. Too bad it lost the matching engine.

You'll have to make the decision, whether to sell it, restore it, or just make it run and ride it.
To restore it might be a multi year quest for the rare parts needed to make it "correct".
To just put something together to ride, well...every expert who sees it is gonna tell you how rare it is, and how you need to restore it.
If you can find the right buyer, selling it off will put it in good hands. You take the money and run, and you'll be left with one more good story.

The name comes from the slanted exhaust shield on the right side of the bike. They changed it to a straighter one after the first 5000 or so. Not super rare (I have two in rough shape,) but still sought after by collectors. As stated above, the lack of matching parts unique to the 68 and bad repairs makes this one either a rider or for sale to a collector for a decent amount. The fact that it is an early frame may make for some cracking. The usual places are the rear frame loops where they contact the main tube, on the lower portions of the rear loops just above where the wheel mounting plates are welded on, and almost always on the short cross-piece on the engine mount that the chain passes over. Be careful looking at the parts...if the front fender, fork top clamp, rear wheel sprocket, and wheel hubs are original 68, they could be more valuable. The front bars and grips look to be original and are worth preserving or selling. Wheels have the correct bolts to be original. Seriously, someone might give you enough for the parts to get a much more complete bike. Show us the other side of the bike!

I can post more pics when I get off work. Heres one I took yesterday.

Thanks for the info guys, the seat has been recovered - home made. It looks like someone tried to weld headlight brackets on at some point.

The welds look like Ray Charles did it with his feet, LOL! Im going to keep it, can you guys help me find an original tank?

A original tank?? As in the "welded neck" K0 tank?? The tank you have will LOOK correct, and work fine. The welded neck will be kinda hard to find and expensive...maybe $100 for a old leaker, and up.

Yes I want an original tank, even if its rusty or a fixer. I scored a few things to make it more complete.

I found a NOS OEM chain for $24.00 shipped, it should arrive tomorrow. My brake cables are on the way. When they come in Im installing new bearings & brake shoes.

Hope you have the same good luck finding the 415 sprockets, I'd like to think they're just as rare to find.

Today I got a replacement toggle switch, wires, and connectors for under $10.00.

I dont think my old one is original, it says made in the USA on back of it. Anyways the plan for this weekend is to get it running.

Is there a wire diagram for this year z50? It looks similar to my QA50 but not the same.
