They sent me the wrong gas tank so I'm in limbo till I get that .

How is the front number plate attached ,I know the tabs I will weld in but is it screwed into the handle bars ?

Thank you. That makes more sense. More welding.

I've had this bike since new in 1980. I was gonna restore it to original but.... plenty do that .

Thanks again . Now I just need to how that seat sits in that grove in the front. Is there something in the center or is that for the bolt for the gas tank that it needs the u shape front?

The rear tank mount is raised up off the frame so the front of the seat slides under it and holds the seat in place. The bolt for the gas tank mounts to that.

The front of the seat goes under the bracket that the back of the gas tank bolts to. Have a look at the pics. If you need more let me know.

BTW.... If you can see the rubber grommets on the side of bracket that the tank bolts to, the grommets are used to secure the rear cowl.

Thank you only pic I didn't have . TB seat is slightly different.

I will send you guys pics on what I've made so far. I have to bend some pipe for the grab bar . I got some ideas for the side panels brackets .

I wonder how manys guys would convert their 79 thru 87 if there were brackets.

This is what I've learned so far. Work from the tank back . You tank bracket is the same . You have to drill out the spot welds on the bracket that the old gas tank mounted to. You can leave you coil mounted where it is due to the recess in the seat.

Also instead of using the stock 79 pipe I went with new 88 pipe TB offers. It has a larger header and all the correct angle sheild for cheap.

I think $372 with shipping on seat, tank, all pastic, and exhaust gasket. I think few bucks for grometts .

Went with silver for shocks. Look like new . Tonight I'm focusing on the front number plate.
