aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Anyone know if, say, minigunz exhaust would work with the right side plate on my 1980 Z?? My '79 only has the left plate, and I want to end up with two to keep the Elsinore theme going. Also how does the minigunz compare to the T4 Pro Circuit system; noise vs. power?

I can't say for sure, but I think as long as the exhaust is made for a soft tail it'll work.

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
If you're putting a right number plate on a 1979 Z50R, you'll need to drill a 1/4 in. hole in the frame for the 1980-1987 style Z50R right side number plate to fit and then put a nut on the other side. Weld the nut on if you can to make it easier. I'm just letting you know this because I can't tell if you're putting the number plate on the 79 or the 80. And I've heard the ProCircuit performs great but they are both loud. I don't know if either exhaust will work with the number plate bracket though. I'd like to know the same thing. Let me know if you find out first, I'll do the same.

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Have both pipes on Z's w/ 88cc RH CRF motors. Both are excellent. Pro cir. pipe is a bit louder than the Minigunz. Pro C. is $300. Brushed finish. Minigunz $225. Stainless and polished can. Both are good sounding pipes. Great performance. Your choice on look & finish. Can't go wrong with either.

I am doing over my '80 Z which HAD two plates, both are missing. My '79 only has the stock LH plate. I am just looking to see if anyone has been able to put both plates on with an aftermarket exhaust, such as the two brands listed.
Thanks for all the input, but my actual question hasn't been answered. (Not trying to be a jerk, just looking for some info, so I don't waste money buying replacement number plates, just to not have them fit.)

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Oh. Right plate is possible with stock 80's exhaust on 79 frame. I have no idea what changes with the aftermarket exhausts. I hope to know someday. Hope that clears up what I said before.

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Well then do like I do. R & D. Make it work. Make a bracket or mod your stock one with spacers or such to fit over the exhaust. You'll be the first one to do it on here that I've seen. Waste money?? Your building a custom Z! We all waste money on here!
But its fun!

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Yeah. That's what I would probably do because I don't like the way it looks without the right number plate.

Good advice, I'll try that....anyone know a inexspensive souce for white plates all around? I see them on Ebay for $25 plus shipping, too rich for my blood

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
Honda Trail Bikes sells all the color oval plate for like $18 each. That's where I'd get them from if I needed them.

Re: aftermarket exhaust and side plate
The 1980 plates wouldn't do you any good though would they? Those were Tahitian Red and you want whatever white they used on the 82 models. If you had the red ones, it would be even harder to convince yourself to buy a full set of white ones.

Yeah, I'm going to buy white, then paint silver/green in Elsinore fashion.
But I got none....dammit.
