Hello, I am new to the forum and in the process of putting a 1973 QA50 back together that I acquired that was in pieces. I have the bike running, but it seems to not want to go into gear. You can move the shifter up and down and nothing. Then from time to time when you try to kickstart it, it will go into gear on its own and then randomly come back out of gear for no apparent reason. I have had the clutch cover off several times but for the life of me can't figure out what is wrong, the whole setup looks so simple with very few parts, but I can't figure out how it is suppose to work. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sweet, that is exactly what I was looking for. Exactly how is the arm off the shifting shaft suppose to engage the thing V shaped item on the clutch? I guess I really don't see how that makes it shift, because all that does in my mind is engage and disengage the clutch.

Just found the answer to my own question in the link below. To bad the pics of 3UP's are not there. Here is a pic of a QA frame & below is an explanation on what has to be done.

New top motor mounts need to be fabbed as does the right rear. The left rear can stay and by using it the chain lines up perfectly,as does a CRF sprocket cover.

I got the thing together and it sort of shifts. Neutral appears to be up all the way and then I can get it to shift down into gear, but sometimes it will pop out. I just have it sitting up on a block right now when I put it in gear, when I climb on it and put it in gear it almost dies immediately and can't pull me. It is almost like the clutch isn't slipping at all because soon as you shift it into gear it grabs and tries to go. Any ideas on what I need to look at? I am definitely thinking I need to pull the clutch apart and see if maybe things are dry in there. I was thinking I oiled each disc when I put it all in but it has been a while since I have messed with it.
